- ➔ opposing parasympathetic effects of M2 agonists
- Increased cardiac output
- ➔ positive chronotropic (↑ HR), inotropic (↑ contractility), and dromotropic (↑ conduction velocity)
- Renin release→ ↑ BP
- CNS effects (via NE, not Epi)
- ➔ ↑ alertness, ↑ arousal, mild anxiety or jitteriness
Drugs with this mechanism (5)
- Dobutamine — Beta-1 inotrope; titratable within minutes.
- Dopamine — Dose-sensitive endogenous catecholamine agonist used IV for selected shock and hypotension.
- Epinephrine — Endogenous catecholamine; the first-line drug for anaphylaxis and arrest.
- Isoproterenol — Nonselective beta agonist; increases heart rate and contractility.
- Norepinephrine — Endogenous catecholamine; the first-line vasopressor for shock.
