PCSK9 antibody
PCSK9 inhibitor (antibody)
PCSK9 antibody — mechanism card
- Binds circulating PCSK9 so it cannot escort the LDL receptor to lysosomal degradation
- More LDL receptors recycle to the hepatocyte surface → LDL-C falls further on top of a statin
- Subcutaneous every 2 or 4 weeks; inclisiran silences the same target twice a year, and the oral peptide blocks it daily

Drugs with this mechanism (2)
- Alirocumab — PCSK9 antibody for major LDL lowering when statins are insufficient or intolerable.
- Evolocumab — PCSK9 antibody that drives LDL to levels statins alone cannot reach.
