Sertraline is converted to Desmethylsertraline by CYP2B6.
The pair
- Sertraline — Broadly indicated SSRI with few CYP interactions; prominent early GI effects.
- Desmethylsertraline — Long-lived sertraline metabolite and a far weaker serotonin reuptake inhibitor than the parent.
Anything that inhibits or induces CYP2B6 shifts the balance between Sertraline and Desmethylsertraline.
