sGC activator (NO)
Soluble guanylate cyclase activation by nitric oxide
sGC activator (NO) — mechanism card
- Nitric oxide is the enzyme’s own ligand — binds the heme, switches on cGMP synthesis
- Inhaled NO reaches only ventilated alveoli → selective pulmonary vasodilation; hemoglobin inactivates it
- Methemoglobin; rebound on abrupt withdrawal — the NO-independent stimulators are a separate card

Drugs with this mechanism (1)
- Nitric oxide — Endogenous gasotransmitter; inhaled for pulmonary hypertension in newborns.
