P-CAB
Potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB)
P-CAB — mechanism card
- Binds the K⁺ site of H⁺/K⁺-ATPase reversibly — competes with potassium instead of alkylating the pump
- Needs no acid activation → full effect from the first dose, no meal timing
- Acid suppression is faster and longer than a PPI’s; acid-dependent absorption interactions are shared

Drugs with this mechanism (1)
- Vonoprazan — Potassium-competitive acid blocker; rapid, meal-independent acid suppression unlike a PPI.
