What it isA non-fluorinated C-8-methoxy quinolone antibacterial that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV.
Why this oneApproved in Taiwan and China (not the US) for community-acquired pneumonia, with activity extending to MRSA and some quinolone-resistant Gram-positive organisms.
What limits itAs a quinolone it can prolong the QT interval and carries class risks of tendinopathy and CNS effects, and chelating cations reduce its oral absorption.
