Iron chelation — anthracycline cardioprotection
- Prevents anthracycline-iron free-radical formation
- Chelates intracellular iron
- Cardioprotection during anthracycline therapy; also inhibits topoisomerase II
- Distinct from systemic iron-overload chelators
