Retinoid X receptor agonist
- Binds the retinoid X receptor, which partners with other nuclear receptors
- Central hypothyroidism — RXR agonism suppresses TSH
- ➔ ⚑ Check TSH and free T4 before and during treatment
- Marked hypertriglyceridemia; pancreatitis risk
- Teratogenic — all retinoids require pregnancy precautions

- Alitretinoin — Pan-retinoid agonist (both RAR and RXR).
- Bexarotene — RXR-selective retinoid for cutaneous T-cell lymphoma; predictably disrupts thyroid and lipids.
